Next Guitar: Gibson AJ or Martin D41
So I have a Taylor 618fe as well as a Gibson Hummingbird. I'm looking for one more guitar to round out the arsenal. I really like the Gibson Advanced as well as the Martin D41. Which of these guitars would compliment what I already own. I don't want anything that's too redundant.
thanks |

They are both great guitars that would complement the Taylor.
Totally different beasts, and I like them both. Best would be for you and only you to decide, or ideally buy both. I would say the AJ would be more versatile while the D-41 give you the brilliant shimmer that 40 series Marts bring in, with the deep bass that Martin is renown for. Id get both.

If you want a D-41, I would strongly recommend you look for a D-41 Special.
You give up the pearl fretboard inlays, but what you get in return is FSSB (forward shifted scalloped bracing). The tone difference is remarkable! |

Wow! Two awesome guitars.
The AJ is a lot less expensive and it's an incredibly versatile guitar. I love the tone of the D-41 as it's got the shimmer and chime and midrange that other 28 series Martin Rosewoods lack. But, it's right over the line of what I personally can tolerate bling-wise. I'd go AJ

Both great guitars. If only got to fool around with a Gibson AJ once at my guitar center. It was pretty sweet. But I'd go for the Martin if you can afford it. The d41 is my favorite guitar.

AJ or D-41
Play both. Quite pleased with my recent AJ purchase.

I'd lean more towards the Martin. Firstly because it's a brand you don't own. And also because I personally prefer the D-41 above the J-45.

Since you already have "tinkle-tinkle" and "thud". I'd go for the Martin and add "Ring" to the line-up.

Actually, the AJ goes "chang jang riiiiiinnnnnnnnnng". Sustain for days. And volume wise, the sound is enormous. Really. I don't do "thud" either...

The only thud I hear is the sound of the dead horse you are beating.....

It's great that you can have that choice - either would be a wonderful choice. But talk about a decision you should make based on your own impressions... If you aren't sure yourself, that speaks volumes.
