Default Taylor 214CE

Hi, I need some advice. I have had a Taylor 214CE for quite a while now and I cannot get comfortable with it. I have had two failed surgeries on my lower back. Combine the messed up back with very short arms, and the instrument is just plain uncomfortable and even painful for me to play. I am much more comfortable playing either my MIM Stratocaster or my Traditional Les Paul.

Firstly, do you think that a smaller body guitar like a Martin OOO-15M style body would be easier on me to play? Secondly, if I were to sell the Taylor and buy a smaller body guitar, what would be a realistic price to ask for the guitar (the guitar is in like new condition).

Thank you in advance for any advice/guidance that you may be able to provide...

I would think a 12 fret would really help.

I'd say yes.

I've got a Taylor Big Baby as my couch guitar, and it's definitely easier than wrestling with a dreadnought.

Try some smaller guitars and see!

That's quite possible. You should also try even smaller guitars, such as on 00 or 0 version. Also, try a 12-fret version of guitars you are interested in; those might fit you better yet.

Finally, look for a "Neck-Up" device. Those are used to hold a guitar in a comfortable position in your lap when sitting. They can help with pain issues as well.
