As you mentioned, the new neck is identifiable by the finger-joint between the headstock and neck and by a seam across the heel of the neck. These are just the visible signs of a radical new neck design from Bob Taylor.
The new neck is a version of the Fender bolt-on neck: a totally independent neck and fingerboard system which can be removed and adjusted for neck-to-body-angle within minutes. Within the neck, under the fingerboard, there are reinforcement bars embedded in epoxy down near the twelfth fret. The bracing pattern hasn't been affected that much, only the upper end of the body in the area least affected by change has been modified. To get more info, get a free copy of the excellent Taylor neck video. Go to the Taylor site, http://www.taylorguitars.com/ and go to the "video" page, http://www.taylorguitars.com/global/video.htm Fill out the form and they'll send you this very relaxed, informative instructional video. He gives you ALL the info you need in that video and shows the entire neck assembly and the bracing changes. You'll love it.
