Default Any Love for the OM35?

Who here loves the OM35 and why? I currently own and love my HD35. I have owned an OM28 and sold it for a HD28E and I wish I would have kept the OM28; however been looking at the OM35. They discontinued building them but you can have them custom built, find a used one or find a new one at a shop out there.
Tell me about yours.

I played one once, and thought it was a great guitar.

I had one the MFG custom OM-35 models that they offered for a few years. Was an excellent guitar and one I was a bit hesitant to sell. I wanted to fund a couple of other projects so I moved it on.

I added a nice set of ivoroid Waverly oval tuners and a tear drop Tor-Tis pick guard and it looked as good as it sounded.

I ordered a custom OM-35 many years ago, with a Performing Artist profile neck as the only departure from the original. Didn’t like it at all. It sounded very pretty, but was extremely mid-scooped just like the D-35. That was also very early in my guitar playing journey when I was still rapidly evolving in my skill set as a player. The OM-28 is a much more versatile guitar. In retrospect, it was a mistake for me to have ordered any custom at that time.

I bought one of the last OM35s to come of the line in 2007 and they were offered in the standard lineup for about four years. For several years, Jon Garon from MFG (now retired), ordered several small custom runs of the OM35 that always sold out so they are out there.

My OM35 has a balanced tone and compliments my D35 well. At the time I bought mine, I had a choice of 2 OM35, 2 OM21s, an OM28 and several Larrivee OM models. This guitar was the clear winner and I have never considered trading it for something else. Like the M36, I consider the OM35, one of Martin’s best kept secrets so If you can’t find an OM35, look for an M36.

In 2015, I ordered a 000 12 fret custom with three piece Mahogany back and sides, short scale and slotted head stock. It is a hybrid between a 00018 and HD35S and turned out to be an exceptional guitar.
