Thanks for all the replies so far everyone. Sounds like everyone is very happy with their D35's. I guess all thats left is for me to arrange a meet and play this one myself.

I'd still have mine if I could have put that big dread in the dryer and shrunk it a few sizes.

In about '75-'76, I swapped a new D-28 with a used '73 D-35 with a broken/repaired neck that I'd known when I played in a band with it's previous owner.

There was something special about that guitar. It sung beautifully, and never let me down.

I foolishly sold it to a friend in, I think, about '96. I've just booked him to host my club next week (I still have no voice) and I'll have to listen to that wonderful guitar again. It's like seeing someone else with your wife.

My daughter seems to like JP 80/20 lights on her D35. Easy to play and seems to focus the bass.
We'll try some D'addario NB next.
I am surprised how loud it is with light strings.

I'll echo what Glen said about the volume...it was true with the 67 D35 that I foolishly sold many years ago.

I can see why folks like the D35 for fingerpicking.

I own a D-18, but I've studied the market on used D-35s because I really want one.

IMHO, $2,000 USD would be on the high end for a used D-35. I'd think you could get one in excellent shape for $1,700-$1,800 USD.

I was hoping to read some opinions from some D35 owners.

The guitar industry is in bad shape right now.
This makes it a buyers market.
I agree that $1700 should be an achievable price for the D-35.
If not on this one there are a lot of others for sale.

Yep. My buddy has one, he picks with bare flesh and the thing just rings out. I'm a big fan of the D-35.

I have a '69 D-35 and a D12-35 50th Anniversary. If I had to get rid of my guitars I would hold on to those two until the last minute.

I have a 2001 D28 and a 50th anniversary D35 in '35 burst

while I like both, the 35 seems more forgiving, and sweeter

I find it so much more " musical ", and it

doesn't take much to sound great...

the 28 , seems to bring out my faults...which are many

I would never sell my '73 D35. I bought it new. Sunburst.

I am the recent recipient of an incredible gift: a 1985 D35 given to me by the original owner who is a patient of mine (I'm a small town doc and regularly receive gifts of fresh fruits and vegetables, etc, but never anything like this). He is older and doesn't play as much as he used to. It has quickly become one of my favorite guitars and never disappoints. It has ringing highs and mids, and plenty of lows when needed. It has D'addario NBs on it now, but I'm anxious to try some monels on it as they have become my strings of choice.

In short, I can wholeheartedly recommend the D35. If it speaks to you, don't let it go regardless of the price. Depending on your situation, a few hundred bucks is no reason to let a great guitar go.

Love my '69 Braz D-35. Plugged (K&K) or unplugged, it sounds great.

That said, the best sounding D-35 I've owned or played over the years was a 1970 model with EIR. Never should have let that one go.

I'm a 1 11/16" guy all the way. Not sure if he ships to Canada, but I'd sure give Jon a call at:

myfavoriteguitars.com

He's great to work with and his prices are tough to beat (expect around 60% of list price).

Very good advice.
