Default ‘37 D41 Authentic Aged Ambertone Custom Shop

I have dreamed about how awesome having the Custom Shop build me a ‘37 D41 Ambertone Authentic Aged would be, so I reached out to the Music Outlet in Sevierville, just now and they’re going to get me a quote on Monday! A ‘37 D28 AA is still the one guitar that haunts me(except for the neck! It’ll have an MLO/PA neck) and I LOVE my D41, so a mashup of the two would be amazing, hopefully!! I’m afraid they’ll quote me a price so high that I’d never be able to afford one, but I won’t know unless I try! I’ll keep everyone posted!

That will be a cool guitar, and perfect for you. Martin probably wouldn’t make a production model Authentic (even Custom Shop Expert) in Style 41 since Style 41 was a more modern creation (1969 or thereabouts). Styles 42 and 45 were around in the Golden Era.

A little over a year ago I tried to order a Custom Shop guitar with all the Authentic features including aging, and at the time it wasn’t possible to get the aged finish, just the vintage gloss finish. It will be interesting to hear if Martin has eased up on that restriction.

Sounds like great guitar. Hopefully it won't be cost prohibitive?

It does sound like it would be a wonderful guitar and beautiful, too! I hope the numbers come out good for you!

Sounds like an amazing guitar, and the Music Outlet in Sevierville is still one of the better places around when ordering a Martin. Curious to see where the quote lands.

That's going to be a great guitar.

I'll be interested to see what they tell you for the waiting time. When I ordered my GJ-28 in December, Mark@Renos told me he's been seeing them in 9 months. When he finally got an ETA, it was for December, 12 months later.

He said the Grand Jumbo body must have scared them.

Anyway, I hope you do go for this guitar, it's going to be a great one!

I can’t wait for you to decide, have it built, and share with us. I would also find this combo sublime.

What I have read " but don't quote me on this " Martin won't build a custom guitar with Authentic bracing. I have been out of the loop for some time now so, I do remember reading this. The boy's over on UMGF will definitely have more info on this. But good luck on your build because just the thought of that guitar has me drooling. Who know you just might have a created a new production model. Best of luck Tin.

I'm a big fan of Martin aged authentics and own an aged CS authentic '37 000-28. I've considered getting the '37A D-28 and must say a '37A D41 would be VERY tempting. Good luck!

That used to be the case, but Martin eased up on the restrictions of most Authentic features when working with a Custom Shop Expert dealer. I priced up a custom 000-18 a year or so ago, and features such as Authentic scalloping, vintage gloss finish and pickguard under the finish were available. At the time, it t wasn’t possible (or so I was told) to get an Authentic neck with a non-adjustable truss rod (which the OP is not interested in) or the aged finish. If the aged finish is now available on a custom order through a CSE dealer, that would appear to be a newer option.

Looking forward to the OP’s custom—it will be spectacular.

Default ‘37 D41 Authentic Aged Ambertone Custom Shop

Called today for an update and they haven’t given him a quote yet. He has 5 more inquiries ahead of mine, so hopefully I’ll get the price soon. I’m about scared to hear what they quote it at! A stage 1 aged finish is available now, according to Dusty at the Music Outlet.

Ok, the folks at Martin's Custom Shop are CRAZY!! I can buy a brand-new D41 Ambertone AND a new Custom Shop '37 D28 Authentic Ambertone for less money that what MY cost would be for a guitar spec'd out like this!! How they can justify that is beyond belief for me!!
