Adding a speaker w/ Everse 8
Adding another speaker to my arsenal.
Sometimes, I don't want to bring the Evolve 30m. The single Everse 8 although capable.. is not always enough. BTW, This is for Solo Acoustic guitar and vocals gigs. I spoke to another member through PM and they rec the ZLX 8 G2. This speaker sounds appealing because I don't necessarily need the battery aspect of the EVerse. Plus It's $499 vs $750. I think 2 - 8" units would be nice and easy set up. Originally thinking EV ZLX 12 or Everse 12.. But weight is consideration too. Still considering another Everse 8. Opinions??? It sounds like a reasonable extension to me, but kind of ironic.
Didn't we move to the stick systems, like the 30M and Bose Pro8; so we wouldn't have to deal with 2 speakers on stands? Have we come full circle? As part of the irony, I picked up an RCF Art 708A last week for the places I consider the Pro8 overkill or to supplement the Pro8. I considered. the ZLX 8P but wanted nothing to do with that EV DSP and app. The 708A sounds wonderful and would be an alternative to the ZLX-8P. But you already have become comfortable with the EV app....go for it. I still cannot imagine the Everse 8 + ZLX 8P would be easier than the solo 30M. |

But also to clarify.. I am not putting both on a pole. I am thinking of using 1 as a floor monitor for "me" and then 1 on a small stand table or tripod as needed. The Evolve is wonderful! Used it Friday for a killer sound system. |

I set my Everse 8 behind me in the vertical kickback position and I don’t need a monitor at all. If it’s a room that requires more volume than the Everse can deliver I just use my Evolve 30, also positioned behind me so monitor is needed. Feedback has never been an issue but I can also eliminate it if needed by moving either of my EV systems up beside me and slightly back. It keeps the signal out of my microphone eliminating feedback but I can still hear it clearly so no need for a monitor.

OP I know that QSC has a small sale on their speakers right now, as does Yamaha, through Sweetwater etc. The ZLX 8P seems like a great solution, but maybe there's a good deal on the other brands right now. |

I don't know what model this EV is, but this trio had two of them (second one at left, out of view) and sounded great, though for sure in an undemanding chillaxin' farmer's market yesterday.

I have a K8.2 and a Pro8. I consider them equal in sound quality but almost always
use the Pro8. It is no more to transport than a K8.2 + stand, and is easier on my ears behind me as a monitor. The Pro8 stays on the floor and doesn't have to be raised up high. I purchased the lighter RCF 708A to see if I would actually use it more than the K8.2. Time will tell. imho, the Pro8 is easier to transport than the 30M....thus I suspect is the reason to look at 2 - 8" speakers. I have had great sound with DI out from Pro8 to K8.2. When I Di'ed to a CP8 or S1 Pro, the sound quality suffered. And, as Papermoon said, the K8.2 is definitely worth a look but more expensive. |

The Bose S1 Pro overloads too easy as an extension speaker. I can use it as a monitor but otherwise I just started using an Everse 8 as an extension speaker. I haven't tried it with the Bose L1 Pro 8 yet. I have only used the Everse 8 as an extension speaker from my Fishman Loudbox Artist. That makes a very capable portable 2 channel system. I am super impressed with the Everse 8 as an extension speaker. But yeah, $749 is a bit steep. Not sure if you can get discounts on these anywhere?

ProAudioStar variously lists their discounted Evolves as Open Box and Used, and some customers have reported seeing no obvious signs they were ever used, with everything sealed up. They have a 35-day return window and their warranty statement is "Most b-stock, used, and open box items carry a limited or full manufacturer warranty." They respond to queries, and I can think of at least one customer who said their Evolve had a full warranty. |

On sale right now. Yamaha DBR10. Can't beat it for $319. 23lb.

2nd vote for Yamaha DBR10. Yamaha adds some nice smooth mid range to Everse 8 which has the superior clean high end. Great combination! 7 year warranty and current low price is the way to go.

Seems like Gary & I had similar findings. btw, when I DI out from the
Pro8 to my K8.2, about 2 or 3 click from zero gives me plenty of volume and seems to work fine. I know I could get a pad, but it does not seem necessary. When I DI'ed to my departed original S1, I used an xlr/trs converter for more adjustability. I have many times looked at the Everse 8 but have stayed away from that DSP/app thing. I considered a ZLX-8P to baby step into the 'controls, , but passed. I was about to get a DBR10, when the RCF 708A became available. It is bare bones, but great sound and has a less sensitive ipput than the K8.2. I am assuming the 708A sound beats Everse 8, ZLX-8P and DBR10, but of course have not done direct comparisons. The 708A definitel;y beats a CP8. I always use a mixer, anyhow. Mike |

Just curious, Jakestone did you venture into a speaker addition?
Groberts, I would love to hear an update on your experiences with the Everse 8 . How is the sound quality vs your other gear? Is it way better than the S1+ , Artist....? I may give it a listen this week at the local GC, if I can get over my DSP/app phobia. Thanks. |

I’m the Everse 8 and ZLX 8 user. To the “lol come full circle” thought movement on a stick pa vs mains, let
me explain my situations. I show up to a gig and I: 1) Use an Everse 8 or 2) Use a ZLX 8 or 3) Use an Everse 8 in monitor mode and a ZLX 8 on a stand. I know it is called ACOUSTIC GUITAR forums, but you have to remember we’re covering a large variety of acts on this forum and not all acts require a subwoofer. So for me, going the EV 30M or 50M and lugging around a subwoofer and a column wasn’t any better and in fact was worse then a lightweight ZLX 8 and a stand. Not to mention these built in EV DSPs have eliminated the need to bring my giant Carvin mixer, mixer stand, and cable. So it’s not really full circle - the stick PA’s in the end were never more efficient for MY act. Also… For bigger gig situations I: 4) Use an Everse 8 + ZLX 8 in the air on stands parallel or slightly behind me, monitor off those, and have the option of wider coverage. For any gigs needing more then the above 4 setups, I could always order another ZLX 8 and: 5) Use 2x ZLX 8’s in the air on stands, and an Everse 8 on the ground as a monitor. So far, I haven’t needed that, and anything needing more then that should have an in house PA. I am super happy with this modular setup from EV and my endless searching for live sound systems is a wrap! Last edited by jpino; 04-28-2024 at 10:22 AM. |

jpino, that sounds like a nice scalable system. Reading between the lines,
You are insinuating that you like the ZLX power/presentation over the Everse 8 sound quality. ....convenience/ portability aside.. |
