NOGD 1949 Gibson SJ-200
I haven't had too many of what I call new old guitar days but this one is 73 years old.
I just got this one in on Saturday, I traded two really great modern boutique guitars for it. I had been on the hunt for a great vintage SJ-200 after playing a clean natural 1957 one at Sylvan music last year. I had a 1949 J-50 a few years back and also have a buddy with a 46 J-45 and I remember this late 40s era being really great from Gibson. This one has it in every way. One thing I will comment on is having played both the newer Historic line of this model and the True Vintage version. Gibson has been doing a great job of capturing the essence of what these were back in the day! But its very hard to beat a well made guitar that has been vibrating and aging for over 70 years!! here's a video I just recorded of it. https://youtu.be/925MyXVkPsM Here are some photos of it from the shop the gent I got it from got it from. https://www.pickerssupply.com/?produ...j-200-sunburst

Sylvan has a nice vintage room, doesn't it? It's not the place to bargain hunt, but every old guitar is solid, and if not, they'll make it right. A month after I bought my 65 Texan, I took it in to ask a small action question. The tech noticed the bridge lifting a bit. They apologized for missing it and reglued it gratis. Yep, the Sylvan vintage room is a dangerous place.

Oh, man. That's a beauty. Late 40's Gibsons are great. All the tonal goodness of the 'banner' years, but with a much more playable neck. In my opinion of course.
I'd love to own a vintage SJ-200. Someday I will.

Lovely old guitar, Bobby... great score in that condition, to be sure!
Do you think it will be a "keeper"? Be interesting to hear how long it hangs around. Enjoy the honeymoon!!!
