Default The Grand Piano of Guitars?

In your opinion what guitar would you consider the grand piano of guitars.

From what I've owned or played I'd say a Goodall Standard Redwood/EIR or a Lowden O23. The right 12 fret dread can have similar tonal properties IMO.

I would call it a tie between a Gibson SJ200 and Guild F50R.

That’s a curious statement. I was found Gibsons to be more of a fundamental sound with lesser overtones. A piano to me has lots of overtones. That’s why I think Goodall would be a better comparison.

J-200 was the first thing I thought of.

My 2017 Buendia 12-fret Jumbo is certainly a Grand Piano of a guitar – a 9-foot Steinway Grand Piano in fact.

I've played several guitars by Ervin Somogyi and some of his apprentices (Kostal, Buendia, Matsuda, Sands, et al.) that would certainly qualify.

I think the Ervin Somogyi modified dreadnought and similar offshoots of this design is probably the most piano-like acoustic guitar design.

Also, the larger guitars made by Kevin Ryan (The Nightingale and the Cathedral) are pretty spectacular.

The Gibson Roy Smeck has long been referred to as such.

I think the make-up of it, with the deeper body, the 12 fret neck, etc sure makes it a good candidate for such a title.

Default Martin Grand J-35e

Big, loud, clean, balanced EQ.
Very few were made, and it has won every side by side comparison it’s been entered in.
I love the Gibson SJ-200, and firmly believe it is one of the best guitars ever-
…The Martin grand is just wonderful

I'm surprised this is not yet mentioned. The Taylor 618e. The original, not the V-brace model. And I'm not even a Taylor fan.

But yes, a good SJ200 is probably the top dog.

It has to be one of the Martin Dreadnaughts, probably the HD28.

Do you mean "The Grand Piano" or "The Steinway" of guitars?

I’ve always thought of Martin or Martin style 12 fret dreadnoughts as the grand pianos of the guitar world….

Both my Doerr Legacy and especially my McCollum GA would certainly be contenders!!
