Default What kind of strings do you like on HPL guitars?

One of my guitars is all HPL, and I just put some Elixir Phosphor Bronze HD Lights on it. I think the heavier treble strings make for an improvement. Might go medium at some point, but not sure it would matter much.

I’ll be interested to read the responses to this, as I have ZERO experience with HPL guitars other than picking them up in music stores and playing them. Never owned one, much less restrung one.

I used to have a Martin dreadnought with the HPL body, but a solid spruce top.
It sounded good with 80/20 bronze strings.

I had a Martin 0001x and it was a great guitar. I would still have it if it were a dread. I used Lifespans, 12s, on it. A lot of folks here seem to be completely put off by HPL...but to each I guess.

My D-X2 is the same with the solid spruce top and HPL back and sides - both the regular SP and lifespan phosphor bronze mediums sound great on this guitar - they came strung with light gauge phosphor bronze strings.

I have a 000x1ae, I like 80/20's on it.

It's going to become my "office guitar" so I think I'll try monels, so it feels like my "home" guitar.

I don't find that HPL has much difference on tone. It's pretty neutral to me. So I go with my default, D'Addario EJ16 Phosphor Bronze. If you want something brighter, try nickel bronze.

I might have to give 80/20's a try on mine at some point.
