But of course, there is no denying the artistry involved, but that wasn't the question. The question was would we want a fretboard like that.
Sorry, but the question was "Would you like some fretboard with that inlay", not "would we want a fretboard like that." Those words are yours. I interpret it as "do you like the fretboard inlay." Neither you, myself or any other poster needs scolded about the way they interpret a post. And if it becomes unbearable, quote, don't interpret.

I don't know, Goodallboy, but by that definition, it sounds like the person I was replying to was "scolding" those who were expressing their opinion of what they prefer against the pictured specimen. So I guess we're all even now

I honestly thought the title was asking would we like a fretboard with the pictured inlay. Now that you pointed it out so gently, I can see that it perhaps was meant as sarcasm (like someone who says "Would you like some fries with that ketchup?" when they drown the fries in ketchup). Even then, the implication is that the OP thinks it is too much, so the replies that agree and provide our idea of "enough" inlay (which may be none at all) are still very much on topic either way.

I don't understand blinging up the fretboard but leaving the guitar top plain as day... How strange.

Did you really mean "guitar top" or did you mean leaving the fretboard plain? If the latter, then how about just about every classical guitar? Are they strange? If you truly meant the entire top, then I don't see many guitars without rosettes

Sure. Bill Wise (Charis Acoustic). Here's the build thread for that guitar:

Well, this 1890s mandola literally has no wood showing at all. It's solid abalone (no, that's not MOTS) over the entire fretboard surface. On an instrument of this type, I think the look works. On a guitar? Maybe not so much, especially a modern one.

Yeah, that's a candidate for "the old country look", where you sit it in front of a mirror wall so it looks like you have two of them, and the room looks twice as wide to boot.
