Oh yeah, I know that. Just sayin I could of spent less rather than go the McIntosh B&W route.

Awesome test. Love these. Surprised that they are barely distinguishable depending on the type of music through speakers. Got 4/6, not sure if that is good, as a deaf person would get 2/6 right from random chance with 3 choices!

I'm shocked that I got 4 correct (#1,2,5,6). I picked the 320kbps for #3 and the 128kbps for #4. I listened through inexpensive computer speakers so I attribute my success as much to luck as my keen ear. I may try again in a day or two with some high quality headphones and see what happens.

Listened through a set of Audio Technica ATH-M20 headphones.
Picked WAV file 4/6, the 320 kbps file the other two (the JayZ and Coldplay).

I have a good ear however the ear itself is a delicate instrument with natural limitations and the brain must be programmed to recognize what it is hearing. In the end there is nothing like live sound from live instruments. Everything else is a recorded interpretation of that effect.
I took the test ... and failed because ... The music was selected to mask the effects of down sampling ... You want to hear the difference? Listen to a drum solo with lots of cymbals. The example music is midrange-centric which is precisely what MP3 targets. If you can convince the ear it's real the ear will fill in the bits it can't hear. But try getting away with that on high frequency samples like cymbals. And note the mixes are fairly flat. I would not be surprised if each clip was run through the same EQ setting prior to posting on the website. 44.1khz 16 bit raw turned out be to the best choice for the CD due to capacity and sonic capability. However up sampling from CD quality is still superior.

I got all but Jay Z through my iPhone earbuds that I had in the car (my custom quad driver buds are at home). I had to really concentrate, though, on nuances like echoes and cymbals to make a choice. Once, buffering of the larger file gave it away. It would be easier if you could switch between the files in real time. The Suzanne Vega song was the easiest for me.
