One should always tell the truth.

Yes ! No exclusivity implied here which is a good thing. It's been made clear to me that the stars and guest of the music fest will be there too. Which is fine with me.

I know you'll enjoy yourself, John. I wish I could join you.

What woods are you choosing for your jumbo?

That is the question at hand and the primary reason for the trip. EJ has suggested Oak. Yes O-A-K ! This is the primary reason I've been invited to play the guitar she made for Doc Watson. It was oak back sides (and maybe even top). Not too many luthiers using it as a tone wood and I think would make a heavy jumbo guitar, but she wants me to try it. From my own search, I thought I'd like Osage Orange wood, back and sides and the appalacian red wood top that is one of the hallmarks of a Wayne Henderson guitar. Time will tell. I chose her for the build rather than her dad as her guitars have more modern voicing and style than Wayne's. I am also not a very good lobbier which apparently you need to be to get one from him. It will be a twelve fret though.

Thanks for your interest !

John

Hi John, sounds like a blast, and look forward to some expert reviews of your Halycon:-)

Oak does sound heavy, reminds me of the giant CA Live Oaks that surrounded my parents' home -- these giant monstrosities with the densest heaviest wood of anything we burned ..and it did make great, long lasting fire wood! So I look forward to your oak guitar playing impressions, as well your full report! Have fun.
