I voted for the "all from memory", but I have to add a caveat: if it's a jazz gig, I'd play from the Real Book if necessary... and if I'm doing tunes of friends that I do not know, I will certainly glance at a "road map" before launching into the thing!

Always from memory but I have a list taped to the guitar to remind me of the songs that I know and capo position - if that makes any sense...lol

Wait until your in your 60's. I keep a small stand nearby just in case. I play twenty songs for two months, then go to the next twenty for two more months, etc... , all year long. That's 120 songs. And with the three remaining brain cells I have left, I'm doin' ok...

Ditto. I do mostly open mics and an occasional coffee shop gig. My bass player and I are both in our late 60s. Memorizing lyrics is just too difficult for us old farts. We don't read while playing and both know most of most songs but need that crutch to feel more relaxed. No one has paid money to see us and frankly, I don't think anyone cares if we have to refer to our charts periodically.
