Default I successfully predicted the future!

Back on March 11, 2008 I wrote the following.

Quote:
Unfortunately, Esteban has become a sales success story for HSN. He was a total creation of someone at HSN. Yes, he can play the guitar; but the rest of the story is all made up rubbish designed to fleece the unsuspecting.

The success has become so great that HSN is now getting the cooperation of major corporations like General Motors. The latest offering is a black guitar with a white fret board and pickguard completely adorned with styling clues from a 57 Chevy. The fret markers are the wide V off the nose of a 57 Chevy. The script is 50's vintage GM. I have seen the HSN segment and Esteban forsakes his trademark Zorro hat for a simple black baseball hat with a white brim. Very 50's!

You can't steal logos and trade marks and sell products with them emblazoned on the item. The use has to be licensed; and such is the sales power of the HSN/Esteban combination that GM did it. This carries over to the V on the bridge, the wall chart and the stylized script on the guitar body.

And, yes it is another "Limited Edition" This time 25,000 units. Why should HSN (the mothership of all guitar sales) limit itself to 5,000. Granted it will take them more than a weekend to move the batch.

It is really too bad that Elvis isn't alive to help Esteban sell these particular guitars. You know that if Elvis were alive he would have one. It is afterall the quintessential 50's guitar. And, anybody that has toured "Graceland" (and I have) knows how bad Elvis' taste in decorating was.

Check out the specs and this comment on the HSN page.

Guitar is 1st in the Esteban/GM Collector's Series

Yes boys and girls there will be more guitars in the series. I am betting on a Red Cadillac Eldorado convertable guitar (the first Esteban with a sound port in the shape of the Cadillac) and a Classic Corvette model too. The wheels are a turnin' at HSN creating the next Esteban classic and HIGHLY COLLECTABLE guitar(s).
And, I didn't miss it by too much.

Behold the Esteban Cadillac® Guitar White Diamond Limited Edition

Hey, when you are on a roll with the success of the 57 Chevy and the Cadillac guitar another one will follow shortly and here it is for you to GAS for.

I personally find them very undesirable. I don't like gimmicks, especially when it comes to guitars.

I think the Euro-market should be next! The "Esteban Rolls Royce" with the classic "grill" headstock; the Esteban "Beamer" or maybe "Cooper Mini" with a "Bavarian Spruce-laminate top." Then-the Japanese cars--the "Lexus Limited Edition," the "Ac-CHORD" with an "Ac-CHORD" chart...hey the possibilities are limitless. Has he outsold Taylor last year yet??

Ha! Guess I was just trying to be very sensitive to someone who may actually find them attractive. Since I can now be honest, they are butt ugly in my book! (there, I feel much better)

Also, I am a dudette, but you had no way of knowing.

Disregarding the manufacturered personna, which makes up so much of show biz today, we might give some thought to some of the stylings of the past...I am particularly thinking about Kay and Harmony, but there were others.

And when I consider that I can buy a new guitar today with a faux cigarette burn and having it already stressed to look like it had been playing for years...well, I think some of these "car" designs look good.
