After determining that a rosewood Martin OM was the most versatile and comfortable guitar going, I went through an OM-21, OM-28, OM-28V and finally an OM-42. These are really wonderful guitars. As for a pickup, I use K&K mini's with a Tonedexter, very hard to beat for sound and convenience. You will not be disappointed with a rosewood Martin OM, and I think a cutaway is probably an extravagance.

When you look at the picture of the back of the guitar with the guitar lying in the case, it’s hard to see the scratches. The price seems a bit high to me—you could practically get a used JC-40 for that price in the US.

That would be another guitar to consider. I picked up a ‘93 J-40 for a little more than that. It’s like a cross between an OM and a dreadnought, with a cavernous sound. This demo has reverb added, but the guitar sounds very much like mine:

So I'm guessing you thought each of the OMs differed significantly tonewise?
