Spend no money on guitar or gun stuff 1n 2016. Guitars are no problem. Accessories do me in. Or at least sell a gun if I buy another. I can live with that.

I go through this process every year, and I'm batting about .500. This year is a little different. I've been home on disability since October and have had lots of time to practice, more than ever. I'm getting at least 2 hours per day I. Right now and many days 3 to 4. The dilemma is figuring out how to maintain most of that when I go back to work in January. So my resolution is to come up with a system that works. I think it'll be tricky, especially since I'll be able to resume piano soon as well. But I'll try.

I will not buy any Martins with a repaired hole in it's Madagascar rosewood back ever again. In fact I won't buy any guitar anymore, my GAS is cured for good and my money is gone.
Thx 'authorised' Martin dealers for ruining my dream after spending roughly 10.000$ on your products, have a merry X-mas.

Ludwig

Just received Doug Young's DADGAD book, 2 packs of Wyres strings for that tuning, and a pile of different thumb picks. So that's my new year's plan.

Some interesting points here.

I am also teaching myself to play piano. I have tried several approaches, but am finding the Lorene McClintock course to be the best fit for me. It is very detailed in lessons are "bite sized" so interleaving that with the guitar seems to work well.

As for the guitar, I do best with an underlying system. For years, I used the CAGED system, but have subsequently found that Kirk Lorange's system as described in his "Plane Talk" is much simpler and therefore much more flexibel for me. Having an underlying system for me is like knowing a major street in a city and everything else relative to it, so if you get lost, you can always find your way back to that street.

To be able to learn both piano and guitar at the same time, I am finding that being able to work with each in smaller chunks seems to work well. Both of these approaches I mentioned here seem to do that for me.

New Years Guitar resolutions.

Teach any of my 8 grandchildren that has interest the joy of music relating to guitar.

Figure out a way on my budget to get a New RainSong Jumbo.

Keep ahead of arthritis.

Frequent this place less. Okay, it's fun, and fooling around on computers is 'what we do' these days, but all the pontificating, blabbering and even bickering are largely a waste of time and get in the way of the real business of learning and playing the guitar.

I did this instead of copying them to the folder and then having duplicates all over the place and accidentally moving them instead of copying, etc. Deleting a shortcut later on is worry free as the original file remains intact.
I'm digging your approach to guitar...but I'm digging even more your folder and shortcut computer policies.

Gear!

Take a leaf out of my book old mate. I joined two years before you and have 14 and a half thousand less posts. You can guess where I spend most of my time...
