Thumbs up NGD: Larrivee L-04

I just received a Larrivee L-04. Cosmetically, it looks like other L-04s, but the type on my model is Italian Alpine Spruce. Because of this upgrade in woods — I've heard that Italian Alpine Spruce sounds more like Adi red spruce than sitka — I did not get the JCL tuners that I thought I was going to get. It was a trade-off, and the price was right. it was a surprise to me. The guitars sounds amazing — and the price. I am content with what I now have. My Simon & Patrick Woodland Pro series guitars, the Parlor, the Folk and the Mini Jumbo, are fine mahogany-backed guitars. But this L-04 is a fine guitar for what I do, which is picking and strumming, and singing. The ebony fretboard is the nicest I've seen. Apparently, because of this model's "special" top, I did not get the JCL tuners, which are a step up from the regular L-03 tuners, which are really quite good enough. So I just ordered a set of JCL tuners to make the guitar consistent with other L-04s. I will put them on when it's convenient. For now the standard tuners are fine. The guitar sounds amazing to me and the East Indian Rosewood is very sweet looking. I will post pictures when I can upload pictures to the Internet again. ✌️

Congrats Nate! Are you going to keep your Simon & Patrick guitars? I would. Great guitars, although not quite as nice as a Larrivee.

After getting the L-04, I can get rid of the S & P Woodland Pro Mini Jumbo HG, But I am keeping the Woodland Pro Folk Spruce HG and the Parlor Sunburst HG —They are great guitars. I also have a recent Norman B20 and an Art & Lutherie Ami Antique Sunburst (8-years old). I may get rid of one of them, and keep the other as the campfire guitar.

Yes, my S & P's all-solid-wood models are fine very fine, mahogany b/s guitars. The A & L Ami is amazing for what it is, the cedar top gives it a warm sophisticated tone.

This Larrivee takes things to the next level. It's truly amazing. I'm at the point where it's teaching me things.

Default Making it a regular L-04

BTW I bought a pair of JCL tuners (18:1 ratio) today at the Larrivee Shop to make the guitar like a standard L-04, but with the added Italian Alpine Spruce. I don't know enough about Italian Alpine Spruce to say it's definitely an upgrade to sitka spruce, but it does make the model unique. I think it sounds excellent and rather like what I expect an Adi top to sound like. It seems to be a more responsive guitar than my S & P models, although the S & P Woodland Pro Parlor Sunburst HG is a fine small guitar — And nothing to sneeze at.

No picture, never happened, lol.

I've bonded with my Larrivee just recently. I was on the fence about for years, but it finally happened.

Curious -

Will you be amplifying this guitar? And if so, how?

I doubt it. If I do, then it will likely be with just a microphone. I do not know much about turning regular acoustic guitars into acoustic-electrics.

BTW I will try and figure out a way to show pics of the L-04. I have to link to them, right? (Couldn't figure out how to just upload them.) The Italian Alpine Spruce top is reddish, very close-grained and a sight to behold. The rosewood back and sides are top-notch. I would not mind showing the guitar off.
