Do you recognize this 70s MIJ headstock?
This is in the local CL, but the seller does not know what it is.

Well, it's for sure a Gallagher copy. I find it interesting that Gallagher guitars were well-known enough in the 70's copy era for any of these to ever get made. Takamine and Aria versions of these were known to exist - since the letter on this one looks like an olde English "A," I'm going to guess Aria.

Interesting...the guy's post made a guess that it was an Aria.
The odd thing is that he guessed it to be a copy of a Martin D35, but the back looks like this: So I had not given credit to the Aria guess, but now I do. He says he's had it since buying it in a pawn shop in California in 1977. |

Okay, mystery mainly solved, thanks to you, pickoid. Both Aria and Takamine made Gallagher copies in the 70s, as discussed in this archived AGF post in which the same doubts were tossed around about Gallagher at the time, with posters showing pictures of their guitars identical to what is for sale on CL.
Thanks, pickoid! http://www.acousticguitarforum.com/f.../t-258180.html |

Glad we got it sorted out. That's a pretty nice looking guitar. I have a soft spot for these Japanese copy guitars. All my older brother's friends played these things when I was a kid. He had an Aria Hummingbird copy that was just beautiful.
