Ever blister your picking fingers? [IMG]
Hi All,
This is kinda funny, or also slightly disturbing - depending on your point of view. I play finger style and have done so for some years, I like it a lot! I don’t consider myself a light handed player. I dig in, some times too much as you will see below. I have 2 guitars, one normal scale dread and a short scale OM. Due to moving around for my work, I played only the Dread for 2 months, and then recently moving to a new city, where my beloved OM is stored with a friend - I've been playing the short scale. This time, something interesting happened after playing only 1 hour on the short scale. I developed blisters on P and I fingers! See for yourself. Has never happened to me. But my theory is that the short scale and lesser string tension lets me "dig in" deeper to the point where some times, I almost "slap" the strings, if you will (thinking about slap bass here). This is especially when I do arpeggios or blues runs. This cuts into the flesh of my fingers much more so than when I play the long scale/higher string tension guitar. Either that, or I am developing a weakness of my fingers and skin and should rush to the doctors now! What say you? Ever experienced something similar when switching from one guitar to the other?

I used to get blisters when I started fingerpicking a year ago. Not any more though.

yes I have. You may have to file them a little after they harden. The skin will catch the strings sometimes. Looks like your middle finger my already be doing that?
