Default Guild d-50e

Hi there, is anybody familiar with this guitar? Is it a "Good enough" upgrade from my Taylor 214ce ?

Depending on when it was made, it will have either a Sitka or Adirondack top. Tacoma and New Hartford built ,2005 and newer, will have Adirondack tops.
Guild D-50 guitars have solid rosewood backs and sides and 1 11/16" nuts.

In my opinion, the Guild D-50E is a far better guitar than the Taylor 214ce.
It is a Dred size which will be a ton louder.

So yes, it would be a good step up from the Taylor 214ce.

I have been researching a D-55 to buy and the D50 has a Adirondack top. It should sound nice. I got frustrated because for more money on a D-55 it has AAA grade Sitka but the D-50 has adi.. But after reading the AAA Sitka is next to master grade what ever that means! But not much feed back on either..

A D-55 is a very balanced guitar. A D-50 Adi will punch out single notes better.
The upgrade price for Adi on a Martin is very clever and smart business.

Other guitar makers use Adirondack without charging a huge upgrade fee.
Martin gets away with it because using Adi gets their guitars back to their glory days. Very smart marketing for them and it's working.

Guild's D-50 is a bargain compared to a Martin with Adirondack.
I still think that a D-55 sounds better though.

You can't miss with either a D-50 or D-55. I also highly recommend you install a K&K Pure Mini pickup if you intend to play out.

In 2006 I bought a new Guild D-55 and it's been my #1 for gigging ever since. Absolutely LOVE this guitar (now switched from a Fishman Matrix pup to a K&K Pure Mini). Here's a recent pic:

I happen to also love Taylor 214's and own two of them (gave one to my daughter). Both have K&K Pure Mini's in them and I love their sound. Here's my 2003:

Good luck in your search!
