Budget Guitars with 2 5/16" or 2 3/8" Bridge String Spacing
Such wide string spacing at the bridge is not normally available on mass market guitars but I wondered if anyone had come across budget guitars (under $1000) with 2 5/16" or 2 3/8" string spacing at the bridge?

You can pick up either of the mahogany back and sides Eastman 12-fret models for just over $1K brand new. They don’t come up used often but when they do they tend to run mid $700s to low $800s.

Thanks, David. I was just looking at the E10OO funnily enough!! I've just been checking my finances and right now it would be out of my reach . . . sadly. $500 is probably my upper limit! But thanks for the reply.

I believe there is a E10OO in our classifieds right now for $800?

Hi Jim,
Thanks for the heads up. As I said in my last post it's out of my league right now . . . especially since I'm in the UK and shipping/import duty would make it more expensive than a new one. |

Hey Mike
I’m in the UK too, and was after the exact same thing. I found a Gretsch G9531 which has a 2 3/8 string spacing for something in the region of £200. I don’t think they make them anymore but worth keeping an eye out. There are smaller models in the range too (e.g G9521) which might share the same spacing. |

Thanks for that A Datts. What's the neck profile like - fat or shallow - and does it have a wider nut too, you know 1 3/4" or 45mm? Thanks a lot.

No worries, it’s not the fullest neck, but it does have a 1 3/4 nut I believe

Here to ditto this. This has the widest string spacing I've ever owned and I was really surprised at how great it was to play. The guitar is out of production. It was marketed as part of it's "Roots" collection of an O, OO, and the G9531 OOO slothead in 2017 to 2019 or so. They still pop up on Reverb in the US. They call the neck a "slim C" which it is. Same 20, 21mm thickness as my Larrivees and Taylor. It's definitely a C shape, Nut is 44mm, 1.73" Mine measured at 2 5/16" at the saddle. It's a fun guitar to play and is quite loud with a distinctive 12-fret growl. Mine's a tad raspy and hasn't really opened up yet - fingers crossed. The Wayback link to it is here - https://web.archive.org/web/20170914...ots-collection

op, you might look into Recording King
they make a 12 fret OM with a 1 13/16 nut width, and 2 1/4 saddle spacing, long scale they call it a 000, but it is 25 1/2 scale I believe the model is a ROS G6 online specs will probably show a 1 11/16 nut width this is not accurate I sold mine to a really good player , and he likes it alot they are solid top, laminate back and sides, but with the 12 fret design have a good fullness and tone....... |

Fitness1 I've never heard of an RK BR341. Are you sure you don't mean a Blueridge? That's worth me checking out anyway.
I did look at the RK G6 000 14 fret model because it has 1 3/4" and 2 1/4" plus a shorter scale which, ideally, I would prefer but I'm put off by a chunky neck (starting at 23mm deep) which might make fretting the bottom string with my thumb more of a challenge higher up the neck. I'll look at the 12 fret model but I imagine the neck may be much the same but maybe you could comment on that. Thanks. |
