A question regarding a strap device
I saw someone at a jam last weekend with what looked like some kind of basket or cage that the body of the guitar rested in, and they did not have to use the end pin.
I think I have seen that somewhere before, but he left before I had a chance to ask about it. Does anyone know what it might be? Thanks, CK |

There are several devices available to elevate the guitar body.
I use the Neck Up, all leather, plus a succion cup. Very efficient and simple. |

You probably saw a guitar version of a "Tone-Gard", an isolation "cage" for the back of a mandolin, developed by and for mandolinists. A little while back the mandolin world was very excited about this, despite the fact that it looks like someone shoved a catcher's mask onto the back of their F-5. I'm not a mandolin player, and while the maker offers a dreadnought model and other custo" sizes, I've never been able to even catch a glimpse a guitar model.
It attempts to isolate the instrument's back from the players body, a sound theory that I saw in action when I stumbled upon a demo/pitch by the inventor at a local acoustic specialty shop. Though I didn't play it, I watched and listened as the fellow demo'd it off and on the mandolin. It worked splendidly, if somewhat jarring in it's appearance. Note the spelling for the website "http://www.tone-gard.com" If you spell it "correctly" you'll go to a site selling repro anodized aluminum pick guard. I couldn't find an image of the guitar model on their site or on the web. Good luck with it, I hope this info is useful, |

Do you mean this? I saw John Frusciante use one for his acoustic on stage...

Thanks Joe, it was a tone-gard. I found a pic at
http://www.elderly.com/tone-gard-for...ght-guitar.htm That was it, but it wasn't what I thought it was when I first saw it. I am not interested in using one, but I would be interested in knowing how much a difference one of those things plus a John Pearse armrest really makes in the tone. That Viking guitar stand that capohk linked too seems like it would be a bit awkward for a performer that likes to move around the stage. But what do I know, my biggest audience consists of the empty chairs in my living room. CK |
