Default Bar Frets - String Wreckers?

I've recently bought I a 1929 Martin 2-17 which has bar frets. I put some Thomastik Plectrum silk and steel strings on it only a couple of weeks ago and the G string has already had it. The winding has broken second fret and looks like its about to break on a few other frets too.

Any of you guys use bar frets regularly? Are there certain strings with are less susceptable to this?

thomastik strings can sometimes come apart quite easily

still great sounding though and i use them regularly!

as for most other strings i would be suprised is bar frets did much noticeable damage to regular phos/bronze
