Default Fred Kelly Freedom Fingerpicks

Anybody try these?
http://www.elderly.com/accessories/n...pick--PKFP.htm

I read somewhere that you can wear them both ways, covering the flesh or over the nail. That part got me interested, since I down-strum a lot and it wrecks my nails. I'm currently doing the fake nails + glue dots thing, but if I can get away from the hassle of redoing the glue dots...

I've got some on order which should arrive in a week or two. To be honest, I'm not expecting much...I've pretty much given up on trying to find fingerpicks I can use. I'm curious to find out what these are like though.

I've used them regularly for the past year or so. I'm very happy with them as they provide a nice practical alternative to: acrylic nails (which I had for some timer prior), metal and other slip-on finger picks. They feel very natural (close to the 'real' nail feel), can be filed to whatever edge or curve preferred by the wearer, allow for frailing without the concern of the pick coming loose or getting hung up on the strings. I like 'em alot....

I use the LARGE size and my only wish was that they had an XL size available.

Yeah, I'm a bit confused about the sizing since they don't list measurements..
I sent them an email, once I get that figured out I will probably order some.
Do they slip off easily if you sweat?

They'll slip off at first when my fingers are dry, but they warm up after a few minutes and get tacky, then the picks stay on. Tried them the reverse way, and one popped off and rolled behind an amp and under a radiator, where it will remain for future archeologists to discover. They don't seem to grip as well if you turn them around so the tip curves back over your fingertip. I also get a nasty pick noise with both the delrin and polycarb picks, but I suspect that's more a technique problem - they take some getting used to.

Hey Krash, I'm sorry but I can't figure out what you mean about the tip curving back over the finger tip. Are you saying they don't grip as well with the more solid part over the nail?

Thanks.

I'm a big fan of the Alaskas, which I file pretty short. Can you file the Kelly's?

I play bass and acoustic guitar, sometimes on the same night. I need zero nails on bass or else they make clicking noise against the strings, which I hate. So I had to cut my nails and I was used to using nails only on acoustic. I've tried Alaska picks and I like them but you need at least some nail for them to fit right. Those Fred Kelly picks look like they may be what I need. Especially if they work with the solid part of the pick on top of your nail.
I've also used ProPiks, you really don't need a nail to use those but they sound so metallic. I even coated the contact area with nail polish but it still sounds metallic.

Yes I think you should be able to file them

wayne8, that's pretty much why I'm so interested in these too. I play piano so nails are a problem for me
Once I figure out what size to get I'll order

I tried them, terrible, I would never be that desperate. Try pro pics or grow nails.

If I wear them with the split in the front, they stay on. If I reverse them with the split in the back, they pop off.

The pick wraps around your finger, and is solid around the back, and open (split) in the front. Some people use them reversed, with the opening over the fingernail. It's a different feel and tone, but they don't stay on my fingers that way - YMMV.
