Well done.

I hooked up with her redheaded sister.

Bet they're equally fun.

Enjoy!

It's the new 314ce with the V bracing. I'd made up my mind on a 314 about 2 months ago, but then heard they were bringing it out with a v brace so thought I'd hold off and try it.

I'm not getting into the raging debate with V vs X, but this is my first 'quality' guitar (never owned anything I paid more than $250 for before) so I'm super in love it with. It plays and sounds like a dream, and whether it's the bracing or not, this baby stays in tune everywhere. I've been testing it out with a Snark all over the neck, with a capo etc etc and it's great. Maybe it's the bracing, maybe it's just a well made guitar.

I got the 314 over the 324 (after about 2 hours playing each in the shop) because tho I loved them both, I felt the 314 was just a bit more versatile in its sound which suits my needs right now. The 324 had that beautiful warm mahoghany/blackwood tone, a more individual voice than the 314, but I play in a range of situations at the moment and can't afford a range of guitars to match each one hah, so I felt the 314 was a more sensible option.

I have a 314ce as well and love it. I got mine a few months ago so it's the old bracing. You are correct it's very versatile and sounds very lush and not at bright as some other Taylors. Maybe due to the Sapele back/sides? I put a bone nut and abalone pegs and Elixir PB Nanos on mine and it sounds awesome. Haven't tried it plugged in yet...have you?

Yeah had my first gig with it last night, just some duo stuff in a bar and just went straight in through the small PA. Worked and sounded great. I do love the ES2 pickup - I tried an older 314 a few months back that had an ES1 and found it just awful, but the ES2 is a vast improvement. Has a much more 'acoustic' tone to it, works well with voices and not too ticky touchy on the strings (ie you're not get every squeak and ratchet that you're fingers make). I like the simplicity of 3 dials.

I know there's more expensive guitars but for the $, the 314ce is a lot of guitar.

RE: the brightness, I found the 314 definitely had more 'pop' and a less woody tone than the 324 (to be expected) but you're right, not overly zingy, and a good tone to cut through with a larger group as well I reckon (TBD on that, tho that's my guess). I found I could blend it really nicely last night with my partner's axe (A Cole clark - Australian brand) by using the ES2 to bring out the mids by tweaking the bass and treble dials down a bit.

Try a 114ce or a 214ce and compare to the sound of the 314ce. The first two are very bright and zingy, whereas the 314s tone is more rounded and lush.
Very nice when you listen closely you can definitely tell the difference. The 314 also has more bottom.

Default I've got a 314ce

...and I do love it. Mine is 2012; I have no opinion on the V brace.

My guitar teacher actually likes it better than his Collings. Now, before the Collings owners jump in, it should be noted that he bought his Collings sight unseen, a special deal from someone he knows there at the factory. We all have our aesthetic tastes in acoustic guitar, and that Collings, while wonderful, just wasn't for him. He sold it last month and the new owner speaks of it in breathless terms of love.

At any rate, he likes my 314ce better than he did his Collings and says that when he gets ahead enough is going to buy him one.
