its where the 12th fret meets the body not the 14th

I think the x14 GA guitars are more all-purpose for both strumming and finger picking. But only you know how the size of the GA guitars fit you. If the X12 guitars feel better, then that's the direction you should go.

You might also check into the x12 12-Fret guitars. I have a Taylor 12-Fret as well as a 514CE and both of them work quite well for singing and finger picking. I don't strum much, but when I do, a lightly played flat pick works well on either guitar.

Best of luck to you,
-Glenn

I'm considering a x12ce guitar myself. My other two main guitars are dreads and I'm looking for a smaller bodied guitar. The two pages below are for the 412ce ltd and 414ce ltd. exact same specs, just GC vs GA body. Great playing by Greg Koch showing many styles. The 414 is certainly fuller sounding, the 412 somewhat compressed in comparison. But they both sound fantastic.

I voted for the GC for multiple reasons: comfort and short scale, making for easier fretting. The GC actually isn't a terrible strummer, especially if you have a light touch. If you have a heavy touch it won't give you much headroom and might distort.

If you want that slightly darker tone, however, perhaps you should go for a 12 fret version or a x22 with a mahogany top. Just something to consider.
