Default What custom guitar commissions are you expecting delivery on in 2024?

As if it was a blur 2023 has past and we have already transitioned into 2024. I suspect that a number of you fellow AGFers have some custom guitar commissions in the build queue with manufacturers, small shops and luthiers. Hopefully, some of you will share your builds and or completed commissioned guitars here in the AGF “Custom Shop” throughout 2024.

What guitars are you expecting & from which manufacturers/small shops & luthiers will we be seeing here in 2024?

I will update a summary list here over the next 4 weeks (through January) based on responses in this initial post.

Winding down my commissioning years . . . but still have some lined up from years ago. This year I will have an Adirondack spruce and Brazilian rosewood 00 12 fret with custom style 30 purflings. Made by Circa (John Slobod).

And I have a Buendia multiscale OM with Adirondack spruce top and flamed mahogany back and sides.

Default Franklin OM

My Brazilian/German Spruce Franklin OM will reach completion in 2024, possibly in time for Nick's 70th birthday in February, or my 70th birthday in March! It will have Nick's hand-rubbed sunburst on the top, and Art Deco inspired inlays and rosette.

It's been in the works for a while.

Default 2024 Commissioned Builds

I have a commissioned Italian Spruce - Bois de Rose Modified Dreadnought from Michel Aboudib underway now. Projected delivery is Spring 2024.

Build thread for this guitar can be seen HERE.

Also just underway this week is a commissioned modern OM-C build from Dave Bianchin (Bianchin Guitars). This will be Dave's ("Carpinteria" on AGF) 50th guitar and we selected a beautifully figured set of "The Fiddleback Tree" Mahogany for the back and sides for this milestone build, which will be paired with a Swiss Spruce top.

Oska Burman (https://oskaburmanguitars.com/), who sometimes drops in here, is building me a nice short-scale OM in rosewood and spruce, with an arm bevel to make life easier for my shoulder. It should be ready in the springtime, and I'm very much looking forward to it. It is my first custom build and could well be the last guitar I buy. Probably.

Hey, Colin Mac--You are going to absolutely fall in love with your upcoming Oska Burman guitar. I'm the guy who ordered the two matching OMs, one with a cedar top and one with an alpine spruce top, both with east indian rosewood. Oska is simply at the top of his game. My guitars are flawless in construction and have a real dynamic push and pull to the sound. I think the double-sided construction has something to do with what I guess I would call the "sonic heft" of both guitars. Oska is definitely an up-and-coming young builder, for sure, and takes his craft extremely seriously. You are in good hands!!

I should be receiving my second commission from Jayson Bowerman in the Fall (maybe the summer).

It will be spalted Machiche and Adirondack dreadnaught. Most of the design elements will be sorted out later. But will probably be another sunburst, since he does them so well.

Here's the back and sides:

And a pic that Jayson says better represents the color:

Hi. I saw your two being built when I first visited his workshop last year! It was very early in the process, carving braces if I remember right.

I went back into the workshop when he had completed an OM as a shop guitar, and just played it for a while alongside my Lowden F23. Based on that, and a discussion on what I want from a guitar, we came up with a build spec that should be a very good match to my playing style, while also being an exquisite instrument in it's own right.

All I need now is patience...

My latest JK should be incoming in April or May, I figure…

It will have our full “Pablo Package”:

Wedge, Bevels, Port, elevated Fret Board extension, CF D tube in neck. No Truss Rod. Short scale, asymmetrical mod V neck. Blah, blah, etc, etc….

This one will be figured Tunnel 14 redwood over highly figured Bubinga, with maple binding and bevels.

Here is the build thread if you want way TMI…

A fantastic and highly musical 2024 to all!

Paul
