Default Played a new Guild jumbo... WOWWWWW!!!!

I normally hate jumbos, mostly because I hate the big size of both jumbo and dread bodies. And because I'm not fond of Gibson's "western" styling on theirs. But my buddy who runs the LGS Sat me down in the acoustic room today and handed a new $1700 Guild jumbo with satin finish over spruce top and mahogany body. I was immediately impressed with how lightly built it was. Not surprising since Guild's parent company, Cordoba, builds their nylon strung guitars so lightly. I've had 12 Cordobas, so I'm a huge fan of their light, punchy, responsive guitars. This Guild jumbo was every bit as responsive, punchy, and tight as my various high end Cordoba flamencos have. But it sounded HUGE all the way up the fretboard. Notes were punchy, big and fat... But articulate and not boomy. It was a beast. I think that I'm going to have put a Guild jumbo on the short list. I'm not even in acoustic mode right now... But that beast is haunting me.

Love seeing anything in the positive direction regarding newer built Guild guitars. I don't currently own one but had a D-40 Tacoma built when I registered on AGF, hence my login ID. The only reason that D-40 no longer is in my possession was the purchase of a D-28. I'd consider another Guild in the future however (small body).

Your playing is fantastic by the way......."April" beautiful song........I feel inspired.....my wife is still sleeping otherwise I'd have the 000-18 out.

I know it’s a different beast, but I freaking love my F-130Rce beyond all measure. It’s got a sparkle and a presence such that I preferred it to my D-18. Also beautiful, and this was made in China!

Big Guild fan!

Awesome, but what new Guild Jumbo is $1700? Was it the imported line?

Must be the F-40.
Hog, jumbo, satin finish, made in Oxnard, and website's MSRP is $2,000.

That is interesting. Guilds used to be the acoustic guitar most chosen in a bar fight due to their sturdy construction.

As a very new owner of a 2011 F47m - same 16inch lower bout and maple back m/sides as a J-185 - I can testify to the awesomeness of Guild’s jumbos.
I have to change the (old dead) strings before I can say more about the tone, but I’m already impressed with how balanced and loud that guitar is.
It’s nothing like a J-185 (Which are very mid-rangey with quick decay, almost arch top like) and the aesthetics are less extreme than a Gibson jumbo too.

I used to have a Guild Rosewood orchestra body, and this new small jumbo doesn’t feel any heavier. I guess some are built sturdier than others.

How was the neck and fretboard?

One thing I don't like about the new US Guilds is the super tight 12" radius. Coming from mostly Flamenco guitars I would think that would be pretty different.
