Default He took me for a ride !!

My next door neighbour works for Rolls Royce (the cars, not aerospace).

He often has a brand new Roller in his drive.

Last Sunday he was working in his front garden and I stopped to chat, and jokingly suggested that he'd like to take me for a ride in the car he had for testing - an all electric "Wraith" still in pre production.

"Oh yeah, happy to! I'll knock you up about 8 (p.m)."

I was brought up in the motor trade - my father sold cars and trucks (we called them lorries) and I was driving his ex WW2 Perkins Diesel breakdown truck when I was nine (68 years ago).

The Roller was, indeed, something else.

This wasn't the one but this is the model :

Nice! What is your impression of the ride and car in general?

Elegant as one would expect. Did he drive you or did the car drive you both?

Rolls Royce has a concept car. They conceive of autonomous cars.

There's a Seinfeld episode... anyone can take a reservation, the trick is
in keeping the reservation...

Anywho... anyone can imagine an autonomous car. Tesla makes
autonomous cars ...

I'd still like a ride in a Rolls, though...

My first remark! and they are fully electric - you touch the handle and the door opens by itself, there's a button inside somewhere but he did it so I didn't see it.

Incredibly smooth ...and noiseless.

Once I was inside he then "said" to the car "Rolls Royce sound -- on"

It answered him in a cultured English accent and then we heard "artificial" driving sounds as, he says that as some find driving in a completely noiseless car disconcerting.

Due to certain "political" issues most of our roads are dangerously potholed presently. Doesn't seem to matter to a Rolls!

Also we are accustomed to cars that do 0-60 in a certain number of seconds - this car literally went from 30 to 70 - kinda nothing inbetween.

I enjoyed it but even if I could afford a car more costly than my house I wouldn't have one.

So, instead of interacting with “Siri”, is it then “Jeeves” ?
- did you have to change clothes before getting in —-?,

My dad’s old boss is a very flashy character and he gave me a lift in his Rolls Royce Phantom once. I got seasick going round the corners - it steered like a yacht! Some interior though.

I would be willing to bet the new suspensions are nothing like the old days

Ah, this was a new one - by yacht like I mean it’s just so bulky and unwieldy it feels too huge for the road, but perfectly suited to sailing.

A Rolls is a true masterpiece of machinery. My aunt has one, even though she can barely see and can’t drive it anymore. Her late husband was a car collector and gave her a pale yellow Corniche convertible for a wedding present. Yeah, I know. But wow, great car. She let me drive it a couple of times. It was awesome, but I was afraid the whole time that I’d get in an accident with it. When you open the hood (bonnet, to Silly), there’s not even a speck of dust on the engine. It’s quite spectacular. One of the classy little things that amused me: when you open the polished wood glove box, on the back of the door in a special holder is a pair of crystal wine glasses. Because, you know, it’s a Rolls. I can only imagine what this new one is like.

I assume that being a Rolls you can get the car with whatever voice you like?

I'll say Diana Rigg.

,
Considering a primary target demographic for these Rollers, it's more likely to be Jurgen Klopp or Pep Guardiola.
