Im curious as to whether any of the respected luthiers ever thought about selling plans to their designs to hobbyists/amatuers keen to explore variations of established designs?

Sort of like a famous chef posting their recipes? But, if you don't have the thousand of dollars worth of tools and the years of experience understanding and tasting fine cooking or the availability of the very best ingredients, will you dish turn out exactly like Martha Stewart's?

Or like the plans for a really nice vintage wine; 1) get some grapes, 2) smash 'em, 3) wait awhile.
