For 2 weeks poorly, the intro and first four measures of Leo Kottke's the Fisherman. I know I will never play it in correct time, but I am finally getting it to sound identifiable. It's great practice in any case to develop skills for other works.

My daughter took Kottke's Jesu. She's clearly winning!

Best,

Mac

How beautiful that you were able to play for your son’s wedding. I would love to do this for my daughter.

I actually think that it sounds better at a slower speed than Leo’s. Not that I have a choice. 😄

Thanks for making me feel a bit better.

Perhaps, we can just say it's the "melodic" interpretation.

Best,

Mac

For some reason "Mr. Guitar" has been stuck in my head lately so today I started working on it. Fingerstyle. It is a very catchy tune and I'm hoping that learning to play it will free my mind!

Been listening a lot to Eric Clapton unplugged lately. Today I learnt “Signe”, the first piece of the album.

I tend to try to learn 2 songs at a time when I am learning or trying to cement technique. The songs are usually similar but different enough that I have to focus on both the technique and the musicality. Currently working on Melissa and Waiting for a Miracle.

Wow. You are right. This is definately a great practice pattern to learn and maybe a good warmup piece. I'll never be able to play it up to speed either but it looks like a great finger exercise.

I am currently obsessed with two:

Black Magic Woman…my preference is the Eric Clapton version, with a small Santana lick thrown in (at least in my imagination).

No Love Today as done by Chris Smither. It is deceptively simple, until I try to get the changing rhythm just right.

No reason to be embarrassed. Both are excellent tunes. I learned Needle over 40 years ago but Norwegian only last year and occasionally I muff a note or three on either or both.

Finally got 'If We Were Vampires' by Jason Isbell sorted to my satisfaction - ie, totally in memory and played all the way through numerous times, including at the acoustic night I run last night. Needs a bit of polishing, but that will come as it gets played out more.

Now, what next...

Ahhh yes, John Smith has just released a how to play video for 'Great Lakes' on his Patreon site, so I'm off to learn that properly.
