As others have said, I'd snatch one of these in an instant if it had the 1.75" nut width.

Actually, I just inquired about one on CL...it's beautiful and affordable. I may pull the trigger on this...But that darned narrow nut...!

Just ordered mine! No matter the nut width I'll live with it!

At that price point how wrong can you be? I am liking the nut width on this guitar. Ordered mine.

Default The Holden GS Mini Story

Hi folks: In response to requests for info, here is the story on this interesting partnership, written by Holden Village's journalist, Mary Koch, for the quarterly newsletter, the (Holden) Village Voice:

http://www.holdenvillage.org/files/2...itar_Story.pdf

And, one more sound sample, a Celtic piece by O'Carolan, played by Randal Bays on the Taylor GS Mini Holden prototype:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/b94qtgi6kf...%27Carolan.m4a

Thanks so much for your interest! This is clearly a forum filled with passion and knowledge about one of humanity's greatest instruments.

I have played both the standard GS mini and this prototype side by side, and can say that the Engelmann top does add a certain richness in overtone, a midrange sweetness, above and beyond the Sitka topped standard model.

I am an otologic surgeon in my day job, and have thus spent an hour or two pondering both the science and aesthetics of the auditory universe....

Enjoy, and thanks,
Dave Olson MD

Wow...that's the Holden version of the GS Mini? Beautiful playing and a great sounding little guitar! If only it had a 1 3/4" nut? Great cause and great guitar...fine work on both sides of the street. All the best!

If I didn't already have my Ltd Edition Blackwood plus another guitar on order, I would be all over this. Such a worthy cause too!!

I am very lucky to be a friend/neighbor/student (in that order!) of Randal Bays. I got to see/hold this guitar "in the flesh" at Randal's home when he was recording the sound clips. It's a lovely instrument. Everyone should own at least one smaller bodied/short scale guitar. So satisfying for noodling on the couch at night.
BTW: If you enjoyed Randal's playing, he gives lessons via Skype. His website is www.baysguitar.com (shameless plug for a friend and talented musician)

Tee Hee. It's the 1 11/16 neck that I love ! I wouldn't have one with a 1 3/4 neck. . . . , so there! (to each his own. I just think 1 3/4 guys like to harp a lot )

I agree, 1 11/16 used to be the norm till those finger stylists screwed up the entire guitar world, making 1 3/4 the new standard. Try not getting a 1 3/4 neck, its not easy. Worst part is that they have converted my hands and the 1 11/16 seemed so slim when I played a Mini the other day. lol

On a more serious note, how many companies would do this for a charity? That is just something you have to reward with your $.

The run is 1000 guitars. Could the members of AGF subscribe for ALL of them before they're released?

That's a lot of guitars, I would be surprised if that happened, but I ordered mine quickly.
