Thanks redcrow and Tom. I’m very pleased with how this is coming out and have much more in store. Thanks for your comments!

Default On to the Rosette

Here are the beginnings of the rosette:

Like the back strip I am incorporating Snakewood, Blue Stain White Pine and Rhodochrosite stone

I'm getting a lot of stone cutting experience with this one.

I'm almost done with the rosette. It will also get a Rhodochrosite cabochon centered under the strings in front of the bridge.

The colors on this build are gorgeous! And I, too, love the symmetry of the bear claw.

Thanks Craig, There really endless possibilities with guitars. That is part of the excitement for me building them.

Beautiful work, Mark! Thanks for thinking outside the box, and showing us what is possible on the outside of our “boxes”.

Thanks Steve! I'm still thinking about listening to people playing that 12 string guitar you had right across the isle from me at the Artisan show. That was a great sounding guitar!

Default One More Rosette Detail

I'm adding one more touch to the rosette. I made a cabochon from the same Rhodochrosite I've been using except I managed to get a piece with some green in it.

Thanks for viewing!

I had to look up "cabochon", and I can confirm you did indeed make a cabochon and it is quite stunning.

Yeah I guess cabochon is outside our usual guitar terminology

Many thanks Mark. I hope the 12-string wasn’t too disruptive!
We need Maxwell Smart’s cone of silence for these shows, don’t we?

It was fine Steve. I appreciated the carpeted floors at the Artisan show. It was a big help with the room acoustics (and my feet). A cone of silence wouldn’t be a bad thing though!

Default Logo and Back Graft

Here I am setting up my logo and back center graft:

First it is gluing down the cross grained center blank.

Once glued it's a matter of feathering off the hard edges so we don't get cracks where a grain lines align with an otherwise hard edges.

Here it is cleaned up with a Maple logo chip set in.

More to come!

Wow - absolute work of art as usual, Mark. I really love the stones in the rosette and on the back. The hues in the stone work with that wood set so nicely.
