Tone Traveler
Lets hear your experiences. I have a couple of brand new guitars and am going to order this as an experiment. After watching some of the builders and shop owners give positive reviews, its worth a try. Anyone else try it?

Really good info on your thread. Thanks for sharing. I am going to try it. I have a J-45 Koa Custom Shop and a D-41 both bought within the last 6-7 weeks. I am going to try the Tone Traveler on them and see what happens.

Fantastic thread there, and great work KevinH!
Through trial and error and with George Gruhn's advice, I eventually discovered what type/style of instruments that suit me best . Because I'm satisfied with my newer instruments the way they are, I've resisted the urge to try one of these.

I bought a Tonerite and I bought a Tone Traveler. After experimenting with both of these devices quite a bit, I no longer use them.
The Tone Traveler, in particular, seemed to bias my guitars toward increased treble response, which is not what I want in my guitars. It may be that I play my guitars enough (and they are old enough) that they don't need any additional excitation to optimize sound. I should sell my devices. - Glenn

I got one a couple months ago and put 160 hours on my Martin Custom 1937 Authentic 000-28 and… well, ****! I BELIEVE!
My second victim is a Breedlove all myrtlewood. Apparently myrtlewood is a tough subject but so far only 126 hours on it. I’ve got a few more to go through but I’m getting anxious for the Breedlove to open up. It has had a bunch of 8 to 10 hours sessions but I’m thinking a longer continuous session might help. Just need to figure out where I can put it so I can still sleep.

Glenn, treble response is the one factor I struggled with in my trial and error search, and others have also reported that the trebles were the most impacted register. As I finally have a stable that gives me a treble tone that suits me, I'm going with the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" approach.

The nice thing about the Tone Traveler is that you can just hit certain frequencies. You can focus on low end, mids, or trebles. And you can customize the treatment for different guitars.

Well if was truly an "authentic" 1937 instrument I'd agree but this is a newly released and built guitar merely carrying the 1937 moniker (and design) and so (in theory) the TD should help.

Tone Traveler is the Real Deal.
Really opened up my Larrivees. More of everything. I truly love the Tone Traveler and what it has done for my sound. With that being said....[It may not be of much value to Custom Guitars that are already lightly built. And it may not add that much to Old guitars as well that have already aged. Regardless still try it on older guitars. I tried it on a 20 year old guitar and it still added something. The nice thing about the Tone traveler is you can customize the settings. If you want more bass, then just work on the bass strings. If you want more trebles, then just work on the trebles. Very happy Tone Traveler user. |

I went ahead and ordered one. When it comes in I am going to start with my new guitars and then work backwards to the older ones.

I borrowed a friends Tonerite as an experiment and tried it out on two very different guitars, a new 00 and a 43 year old dreadnought. I didn't notice any difference in either guitar.
These were both luthier built guitars, I suspect this technology may work on lower end heavily built instruments. |

I have one, and I ran the 96 hour treatment on five guitars. The older the guitar, the less change I heard. I have a Larrivee that’s only a couple years old, it seemed to gain the most from the treatment.
The best thing about the Tone Traveler is that you can target specific frequencies. If you feel your guitar lacks treble, target those strings. Lacking bass, target those. It’s a pretty cool product, but the results can be highly variable between guitars. |

I've used on both new and used, especially infrequently played guitars. Worth the money for me. I keep it busy, working for it's keep.
