Default Do you think Beyonce is Country?

I'm surprised by the social media stuff I see about Beyonce claiming her country roots, with cool videos, & her personal magnetism... Most of those posts seemed to be hogwash, accusing her of horning into something she simply wasn't! IOW, a poser...

OTOH, Dolly Parton, with genuine hillbilly raisin', turned down the R&R HOF, because she didn't think of herself as a R&Rer... However, she also said she soon do some real R&R, to be worthy of such an honor... I expect her R&R will be 1st class, too!

What are your feelings about Beyonce, as a country performer? If Dolly can be a R&Rer, why can't Beyonce be "Country"?

Don

Who cares? I think she should do whatever she wants to do. If it doesn’t resonate with her fans, or the buying/listening public - it won’t sell. Apparently it’s selling. The Rolling Stones aren’t “country” but they’ve recorded country music. Likewise with James Taylor, Eric Clapton………

Dolly Parton should so very totally much do a rockabilly album, covering the great Wanda Jackson, Janis Martin, Lorrie Collins, and more.

Beyonce, could not care less, packaged megastar like Taylor Swift and more. Fair play to her and them but meh to me.

Super talented artist dipping her toes into a different style. I don't think labeling her as country ... or not country ... means anything at all.

Haven't listened, but if her lyrics contain BEER CAN, DIRT ROAD, TANK TOP, SUN TAN, then yes it is likely country.

Pop is pop. It's all about the money.

I stick with bluegrass and acoustic roots and blues and only hear about those people on t.v.

And here.

As fas as Beyonce's roots being country, aren't all our roots "country"?

This.

I don't really know anything about Beyonce other than what I have read and heard, and she grew up in the Houston area where I'm sure she has some exposure to C&W music.

All that really matters is that she is incredibly talented and has earned the right to pursue whatever artistic channels she wants to pursue. Given her history, I think she can sing the dictionary and make it sound good.

Life is too short for me to even give her any thought to be honest. I guess she can do what she wants to, but if she is country, why did she ignore it so long? She should have put a ring on it and did some Johnny from the get go.

I guess I don't get out much. I'm sure I've never heard a Beyonce
song all the way through on purpose. When I used to watch the
teevee news in the morning, she'd be on there often. I thought she
was a spangled-bikini-wearing hootchie-kootchi singer/dancer... ?

JMO but there is a whole bunch of nonsense that's trying to be passed off as country right now. Jake and Elwood Blues were more country for an evening than a lot of the junk nowadays is.

"Head em up, RAWHIDE!!"
