D-28.. basic all around guitar

HD-28V.. what an HD-28 used to be

HD-28... not the same as the original HD-28 and no reason to pay up over and above a D-28

To conclude..

D-28 OK

HD-28V excellent

HD-28 no reason to buy

Many Martin fans are just unable to admit that the flagship D-28 is not a good guitar compared to its other iterations. I'd say look at what they play, rather than what they say.
What a limited view...

I have several variations of the D-28; have had several others. Currently, between a vintage Brazilian rosewood D-28, an early '70s D-28 and a Custom Shop Adi/Amazon HD-28V, I play them all. At times, for the moment, I prefer one; at times I prefer a different one.

What do you have? What do you know about the subject at hand? Do you only play one guitar or do you have several and like them for different reasons, purposes and times?

P.S. If I had to whittle back down to one guitar for whatever reason, the '71 D-28 is the one I'd keep, so that kinda shoots a hole in what you say.

The HD-28V is not what the HD-28 used to be. You should know better than that.

"HD-28... not the same as the original HD-28 and no reason to pay up over and above a D-28"?? What the heck does that even mean?

Have you gotten so soured on Martin that you don't even know the differences in those models anymore?

I'm sure you can't go wrong with either, both very good.

I started off with a HD, but kind of warm up to a D. Ended up with a 18 (even warmer). Good luck

Are any of the D-28s you currently own straight braced?

Two - the '67 and the '71.

Do you own and play any D-28's?

Owned and sold. So no aftermarket scalloping at all on those two guitars?

A very light touch, while some other work was being done.

There's an expression that is used in Yorkshire (England).

'There's nowt as queer as folk'.

When I see folks on here utterly adamant that only THEIR experiences count and are not willing to even countenance anybody else's opinion. I realise how true it is.

Guitar tone, playability, looks, appointments, strings, capos et al are ALL subjective.

So your 'much better or much worse than . . . ' may actually not be everybody's experience. But why can their opinion not just be allowed to stand with equal weight to yours? Surely it's just basically respect.

Rant over.

Yeah... I did some looking into background and it would seem you're absolutely correct.

Like I said above, look at what people play, rather than what they say. You had those braces scalloped because you thought it would make the guitars better.

Talk to me after you've learned more about Martins and how to read better. I've looked back into threads and it's obvious you're learning about Martins, so I don't want to discourage you, but I will suggest learn more before making statements.

How about addressing why you got them scalloped rather than diverting to a reproductive organ measuring competition?
