The information from an interview in the July 2013 Acoustic Guitar Magazine also says that he plays a '54 J-45.

When I heard them live a couple weeks ago, the amplification on all 3 acoustic instruments was simply incredible. Every one of them sounded simply like a LOUD acoustic instrument, no trace of "pickup sound"... which immediately sent me scrambling to look up what they were using as soon as I got home from the concert.

Still not sure, but - WOW! Whatever combination of amplification they use is sure working!!!

I was wondering the same thing. His live sound is wonderful..I know the J45 and the player have a little to do with it but I'd like to know what puckup system he has

Me too! Had exactly the same thought and reaction when I saw them a few months ago.

I believe the system he uses is the LR Baggs Lyric.

You can get a good close-up look at it here:

It is a stellar guitar. Nickel Creek has always pushed every bands game up a notch, because they "sound" so perfect.

In the video it appears that Chris and Sean have microphones attached to the top of their instruments. Sean's is just below and in front of the bridge on his guitar. Chris has his lower down on his mandolin. You can also see the cable them appears to plug into a wireless transmitter.
