HD-28V V neck not as pronounced?
I played a great HD-28V today at the guitar store. I didn't even notice the V neck until I remembered it had one. It seemed a lot less pronounced, less thick then I remember. Is there less of a V then there was on models a couple of years ago?

I had one where the V was not particularly pronounced. 1 11/16" neck. Maybe that makes a bit of a difference. I don't care for the neck on the D-18 GE much, and the one on my HD felt totally different. Rounder and smoother on the edges, both on the sides and the vee itself.

I think that you are correct. There was a time in the past (not "vintage" past) that the "Modified V neck" was more pronounced than it is now. My 2012 Custom Shop HD-28V (with the standard 1 11/16" Mod V) is not particularly pronounced V-wise.

Dave, I was playing the HD-28V and didn't even notice the neck, in other words it felt great. I wonder if Martin read on a lot of the chunky v neck concerns from people and scaled it back a bit. |

I certainly think so. On the fretboard edges it's particularly different. Much sharper.

Chunky is one thing; Pronounced V is another.
I like chunky; I don't like pronounced V. I think Martin may have responded to complaints about design getting overenthusiastic when building in the V and cut it back some. Many of us wish they'd return to the simple "full neck" (somewhat C shape) from the days prior to "Neck Style" being a selection. |

Yes, there should be a simple full neck on their guitars. I hate all their necks on production guitars except the mod oval.

My 2000 D-18VS has a modified V. The "V" is pretty pronounced but I find it very comfortable to play.
