Default What's the most you've spent on a guitar?

What's the most you've spent for one guitar?
Who has bought a high-end acoustic and regretted it or was glad you paid the money for the guitar afterward?

The most I've ever paid for a guitar was for an Adi/BRW Goodall TROM and IIRC it was somewhere between 6k - 6.5k used/mint. It was a great guitar while I owned it and I got every penny back when I sold it. Zero regrets or guilt of indulgence.

I've spent way more than $10,000 in the past. It didn't make me a better guitar player, but my wallet was so much lighter that I no longer felt that pain in my hip, knee, and ankle.

I spent £2800 on my Martin 00028 which is around $4k. I don’t regret it but I definitely wouldn’t spend more, at least not at my current earnings level.

Strange categories you have there. Why not break the prices down into equal ranges?

Anyway, if you have the spare money and it's not threatening your financial security to buy expensive guitars, why not get a dream guitar and enjoy your life?

Me personally, I'd rather have guitars that I don't have to agonize over when my 1yo son bites them (yes one of mine has teeth marks) and so I don't have much interest in expensive guitars that will lose a ton of value if something like that happens.

More than $10k for several. Past $20 You start getting into paying for collectability and for the Vintage Golden Era style instruments and I can completely understand why people buy those and I hope at some point in my future to be able to afford a nice prewar Martin Dread.

4k has been my limit so far, but you never know. I think the only way I would go above that is if I sold a couple of guitars I already owned. Or if I win the lottery.

Not enough categories for real world here.

In addition to the majorly high end prices you listed there should have been:
Under $500
$500 - $1000
$1000-$2500
$2501-$4999

Because "under $5000" covers a lot of ground and a heck of a lot of guitars (ex. every one of my entire collection...maybe most of them combined actually).

Bought a new Adi/Braz PWGC HD back when they first started building for $6900. Sold it for a lot more...

It's been going up. My last was $5.9K for a Bourgeois 00. No regrets.

I figure if I spend enough money on guitars I won't have enough left to buy the farm.

agreed,I reckon a substantial number of votes will end up in the 500 -1000 category.

I've paid more than I thought I would, and don't regret it. But then I've always played the guitars extensively before the purchase.

Sounds like you might be paying for one you haven't played (?) I haven't been gutsy enough to do that. Fortunately I've been content with "off the shelf" boutiques.

Hope your new guitar is everything you imagined it would be.
