Strummers - This Is Heaven
Strummers - does it get any better than this?
Cool morning 16C = 60.8F but humidity is sitting nicely at 52% Gibson Custom Shop Historic SJ-200 just over 12 months old now, played every day. Tuned down 1/2 step - a habit I developed when I owned several 12-string guitars and found it convenient to tune my 6-strings to match. D'Addario Nickel Bronze lights, about 2 weeks old, gently played in. I'm using the Strings and Beyond 'T' thin celluloid picks - this is an incredibly warm sounding guitar and the NB's and thin pick combination sound amazingly clear and balanced yet there's still a ton of depth in the bottom end.

Glad you found a great combo. I’m curious are you liking them more than the 80/20’s?

I have some Ernie Ball Earthwood 80/20s that I'll try too and I'm looking forward to trying some Curt Mangan round-core 80/20's I have on order. So far it's been a fun experiment with great results.

I've been enjoying the D'Addario Nickel Bronze (fingerpicker, no picks) as well.
Trying them on different guitars. Liked them on Martin 00-28 though I've gone back to Martin Authentic Flexible Core - 92/8 Phosphor Bronze (MA540FX). Trying them on the Waterloo WL-12 now. Think it might be a match. |

I'm not familiar with D'Addario NBs. I like the gauge on the 12-53s. I'm guessing the G is wound?

Yes, I don't think I've ever used a set of steel strings with a plain G.

The NBs didn't work well with my Guild F47R. Too sharp and no low end. This just shows that there is no guarantee with what strings work with any given guitar.

Unlike any other D'Addario sets I know of, in the Nickel Bronze there are also two Balanced Tension sets. The Light-Balanced Tension (NB1252BT) is still two plain strings and four wound strings but the gauges are 12-16-22-30-39-52. Still a wound 3rd string but it's 0.022" instead of 0.024".
