Is is in the neighborhood soundwise of my old Gibson J-35 Reissues (I wish I hadn't gotten rid of the last one )? Not quite, but it still has that dry bark the Gibson jumbos have, that I like so much, and my IBG J-45 even did a great job filling in for my 12-string a few weeks ago during mass, playing with a local church band.

Cool my IBG J45 is my main gig guitar

I played a Epi J200 hundred the other day because it just looks freakin cool. Unfortunately, I was a bit underwhelmed and it was quite thin sounding but that doesn’t mean they all are. Glad you are enjoying yours…..

I wonder if on piano forums, people post photos of their collection of like thirty-seven pianos? "We had to build an addition on the house..."

Personally, my G.A.S. is completely under control. I only need two more, something along the lines of an OM with a cutaway, and a Super Jumbo, then I'm done. No, really. Done. Well, maybe another 12-string and another classical, too. But then I'm really done. I'm serious. I mean it. Done!

Do ANY of the IBG Epiphones have a 1.75” nut width…or even a 1.73” like (I think) the Gibson J45 Standard has?

I think they all have 1.69" / 43mm nut width. Can someone educate me on what the difference is? Or what the nut width does to the guitar

Thank you

Nice! I thought I was done gassing for a bit but I saw the post for the guitar lair liquidation and well

Apparently there is a new Avalon D300 Americana heading my way. It's their take on a J45 but has the wider nut that I like and a long scale.

Haven't tried the epi ones but have really enjoyed some Gibson J45s that I have tested.

This will be the first dread I've ever owned. That would be my justification.

Thanks for letting me know about another guitar maker. I never heard of Avalon until now

I have never seen one of their instruments in person but apparently they have a history with Lowden and have a number of the same people. Everything I've seen online looks pretty awesome.

I am excited to see if they live up to their reputation. Given the pricing I think I should be able to sell it without much risk of losing money if it doesn't work for me.

I have come to the realization that though the gap is narrower than ever, I'll pay the price for the US Gibson. Same deal as when I went mandolin shopping. The Kentucky master model was very good. The next audible step up was a Northfield at $1500 more. I left the store thinking if I bought the Kentucky, I'd think about the Northfield every time I played it.

My advise is never compare them side by side. I hear the difference, YMMV. Certainly if you don't, don't pay the price. Good as Authentic Martins are, they aren't pre war Martins either.

After a long passive mandolin search, I bought a Weber that ticks most of my boxes at a price, bought used, I can afford. But I don't delude myself it's in the same class as a Master Model Gibson, or an Ellis. Sometimes good enough is good enough.
