Are the Thomastik-Infeld Plectrum‘s the kind you have to tune before you cut the strings?

100% agree, they add a certain fullness and depth to the tone with very little string noise which is great as I’m using metal fingerpicks. These are boutique strings, the packaging is great and the strings are beautifully made. After years of just using Thomastik it’s nice to change it up on at least one guitar.

Another string update.. slightly unrelated.
I felt the bottom end on the heritage 13-55's was a bit too lacking on my archtop so I decided to try some 13-56 daddario nickel bronze balanced tension. I think I have found the right strings for this guitar. They sound wonderful. Lost all the annoying jangle, lost some annoying harmonics and just sound clean and warm with lower tension. Pretty much exactly what I was looking for. Total tension is about 176 or so, but I'm swapping the 13.5 and 18 for a 13/17 which brings it down to about 170ish. Right in line with the plectrum 59's but far more balanced across the neck. List of strings I've tried on this guitar before getting to this point: Martin Retro Lights Plectrum 12-59's Martin 13-56 phos Gibson 13-56 phos Gibson 12-54 Phos Newtone Heritage 13-55 Phos Combination of E/A from plectrum 12-59's and D/G/B/E from heritage 13-55 (that would be an expensive string set for sure) Daddario Nickel Bronze Medium Balanced Tension |
