Default Anyone play/own a Guild GAD-JF30?

Elderly seems high on this guitar. I'll eventually be GAS'ing for a Jumbo again. Any thoughts out there? Anyone going to Elderly anytime soon and wouldn't mind playing it and sharing thoughts? Thanks all!

I'm not going to be really any help because I haven't played one. After looking at the link the first thing that pops in my head is that's a lot of cash for a made in China guitar. But then who knows. Maybe it's worth it and maybe you can get them to lower that price a bit more.

I played one of these a few weeks ago at a retailer here in NJ - this is an interesting guitar. I was surprised by the quality of the sound coming out of it - decent volume and good tonal depth. Very playable. Build quality seemed pretty good, too - no overruns or finish problems. A bit on the heavy side but that's about par for Guild.

I say interesting because it stood up for itself against some of the Taylors I played there, including an old stock W10. So, for the money, it's a good deal. But it's not domestic, and probably won't have much of a resale value. So, for the money, it's not a good deal. Guild might have a problem with this instrument b/c it's neither here nor there, if that makes sense. I'd probably stay away from it, unless you wanted a jumbo to noodle around on, maybe play out with, and not worry about it being a prize piece.

Thanks for the thoughts! Actually, that's exactly what I want. Not worried about resale, thought it might eventually be a good performace guitar and I don't have a jumbo. I just want to know how it sounds, and possibly compares to other jumbos at any price point. The resale thing does apply though if I can't find one around here to play. I'd hate to buy one unheard and feel like I had to dump it.

To the other poster's point, it is a lot for a guitar made in China, but on the other hand, I thought maybe it's a steal for a guitar with solid AAA flamed maple sides and back, and a bone nut & saddle, and wood bindings.

Other thoughts? Thanks!

It does appear to be a good deal for what it offers. Jumbo maples can be wonderful guitars. The only thing is it turns some people off because it comes from China. Some have concerns about quality, some have about politics or both. Personally I say check it out and focus on the soundand build quality. If good go for it. Just my two cents.

I believe in a policy of engagement with China. I will engage them in building more guitars, and they shall grow to love commerce and democracy.

D-red, I own that exact guitar and put it down at a buddys shop on consignment due to my love of wide necks it was too small for me.
the maple on it is top notch , even better than any of my old Taylor
maples. If you wish I can let you get in touch with my dealer buddy
and buy it from him, save sales tax (about the same as shipping from
alabama) and based on the price in your link probably save you some
dough. I put a new set of Elixers on it when I took it down there so
it should be good to go.

BTW have you seen the killer case that comes with them? Looks like
Hartman luggage. LOL

If you are interested in that guitar either email me or call Herb Trotman
at ''Fretted Instruments " in Birmingham AL. his # there is 205 879 6489
Rules mean I can't give the price in this thread but I know it is much less
so even with shipping it should have you at least a franklin maybe more
and I have personally played this one and it rocks except for the typical
small Guild neck. Played and sounded a LOT like my old Taylors for a fraction
of the price. The new China dolls rock IMO

let me know what you do my email is [email protected]
later

Played one tonight. Thin string spacing even for a 1 11/16". I think the search continues. Actually quite a bummer as this is one heck of a guitar for the price. really liked the sound!
