Default RIP Alex Hassilev

I recently read a nice tribute by George Grove lauding Alex Hassilev. I saw Alex in a later rendition of his group the Limelighters in the 90’s and I was mesmerized by his strumming technique on classical guitar. I have seen a few classical guitarist but never did I see his way replicated. I am sad that this wonderful troubadour is no longer with us, but I continue to enjoy his musicianship across the decades. Sadly missed.

I got to see Alex Hassilev and the Limeliters a few times in concert. Plenty of energy and offbeat humor during those gigs. A fine, talented performer.

He also played one of the “invading” Russians in the 1966 film, The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming.
