314 and nylons too
Went to my local Taylor dealer tonight and oh my! they had two nylons hanging in the "T" room. they had a NS62CE and an NS72CE. I am not familiar with classical but I could not resist a little "playing time" with them. They look a lot better than they sound to me but that's because I don't know how to make them talk. From there I ended up playing anything I could reach and I was most taken by this simple little 314. It had a voice!! I even went back to the room a little later for a refresher session! I am thinking maybe a 514,no "c" or "e"? Hmmmmmmmmmm

Dude,
You can't go wrong with Taylor, even in the 300 series. I'm amazed at how their cheapest guitars outshine even some of the best guitars from other manufacturers. Taylor gives you really good value for your stringbox, no matter how much you pay, IMHO. In Him, † <>< Stephen

Ya know, I'm in the middle of negotiations with myself(a long story, don't bother) about what will be my next Taylor. I want to get something special, custom shop even, but can't think of anything. When I think back of all the different model Taylors I've played and the one's I've already got and the sound "niche" that they fill, that I've needed, I can't come up with something that really wets my appetite.
BUT, when I think about all those Taylors, the most surprising one by far, and the one that I get the most "simple" enjoyment out of playing.................is the 314. No C, no E. I know Taylor's flagship is the 810(his original design), but I think Bob and the design crew don't know that they're accidentally making a tremendously fun, full-sounding, easy playing, cheap-for-the-tone-you-get guitar. Here I am ready to spend another small fortune for a 700-up series custom piece, and the only one that really jumps out at me and fills a niche that I don't have already is the no nonsense 314. ............wait a minute.......maybe Bob T does know about the 314........maybe that's how TAS got started!! NO!!!!!! -Mike A.

Nothing can touch the value of the 300 series, IMHO.
I recommend them all the time when people think they have to spend a couple grand to get a Taylor. Gee, same great craftsmanship and sound, not as much $$. What a bargain! As for the nylons, they simply aren't loud. The only way to amplify them is to -- amplify them. I love the maple one we have, but I don't think we'll be getting one of each series. The maple keeps sounding better, but it still isn't louder. Great if you don't want to wake anyone up. |
