2 Bourgeois, which would you choose
While i'm still hoping for a used Bourgeois 00, I'm narrowing down choices on a new one, and came down to these two : one is Aged Tone (Torrefied with Hide Glue) Adirondack top with Indian RW, the other is regular Adirondack top with Madagascar RW. Which one you would choose and why?

IMO, there is no right answer from one of us to you. Both guitars will sound great but which one is "better" is highly subjective. Only your ears will tell you which one fits yours needs better. Many may believe that the Madagascar RW is superior because if is more exotic but let your ears be the judge of that. I say this in the context that guitars are so well built these days that I don't believe tonewoods are really the deciding factor. Hope you get to play both in person as I know these are fairly expensive guitars.

Tone wise, the two will be very similar.
I usually prefer to buy new -- but between these two guitars the one at Northern is a better specimen IMHO. The MRW back and sides aren't too shabby -- and from the photos the top also looks nicer than the 00 at Acoustic Vibes. |

Unfortunately i wont be able to try them. I agree the Maddy looks nicer. I guess its a question of Torrification/hide glue vs madagascar...hmmm...

Totally your choice but I would opt for hide glue construction.

Tough call. Impossible call without playing. All I can add is when I was shopping for a Bourgeois dread, the Madagascar had a noticeably bigger, deeper, richer tone the the EIR. At least with those two particular guitars.
Throw in the torrefied, which I haven't tried, and you could end up with a dead heat. |

2 points:
1. Both are being sold from music stores that likely sell recording equipment. Could both places record a good quality sample for you, perhaps even playing the same thing? If both places are agreeable, let your ears decide. 2. If you can't get a sound sample, I'd put my money on the upgraded soundboard. The soundboard should have more to contribute to the sound of the guitar( hence the name), than the back and sides. The back and sides should determine overtones. Both are rosewood, so I would wager that difference between mad and eir would be less than torrified vs non( assuming the same top and bracing wood species and bracing pattern). 3. As far as hide glue goes, there's obviously a debate on how much it does or does not add to the sound. I was speaking with Mark Dalton from Huss and Dalton when I took their factory tour a couple weeks back about hide glue. His opinion was the only thing it changed was the price and he could audibly tell a difference. One guys opinion, but a guy who's built guitars for a while. Take that for what it's worth. I hope this makes sense. Good luck Drew

Not familiar with these guitars beyond their excellent/high end reputation but truly a toss up. On the top one, I like the torrified addi top and glue. On the second the madi rose wood is rumored to be as close to Brazilian as you can get, but don't like that top with wavy lines and bear claw figuring.

yeah the adi on the adi/mad looks superb and I'd chose it.
The adi on the 'Aged Tone' seems to be displaying a bit whats described in this thread - http://theunofficialmartinguitarforu...n#.Vkub2Mqzl3k

Adirondack top with Madagascar RW
Don't like a torrified tops -im with the old school philosophy that a top needs to be aged with time - plus the Maddy back and sides is a plus ! gorgeous instrument . wish you could play both before making a decision - maybe a bigger seller with more choices or closer choices to play .

They are both nice but I would have no idea which one would sound the best to me without playing them. If that's the style and woods you're looking for, either of them would be great.

If you wanted to make a day trip from NJ to play the one in NH, you could stop at TME on the way and try this nice OO http://www.themusicemporium.com/guit...ndack-mahogany
That would take some serious willpower to escape TME without a purchase. |

I am one who believes that hide glue is of sonic consequence, so I can understand the inclination to make that choice. For me, though, if I couldn't play both of them prior to purchase, I would base my decision on whether, in general, I preferred Madi or EIR. I suspect these guitars will not sound all that similar, but I can't imagine that either one wouldn't be a very nice instrument.
