Guitars are both portable and incredibly versatile.

You ever try dragging a grand piano to a protest rally?

Seriously. Any male who was alive when the Beatles performed on Ed Sullivan said, "I want to be them... any one of them... OK, maybe not Ringo, but any of the rest of them."

Girls were screaming and crying... in a good sorta way. I wanted a guitar. Oh, and some of those cool Beatle Boots. I can grow my hair... yeah, it's curly, but I can tape it down, maybe? Maybe they won't notice if I have a guitar? They keep saying, 'Paul is the cute one,' but he plays the bass. Hmmm, maybe bass is easier than guitar? It doesn't matter - once my hair grows out and I get the cool boots, all I have to do is get in a band...

And, THAT'S how this whole guitar thing started. Really. I was there... saw it with my own eyes on the black and white TV.

Beatles. Chicks. Oh, hair and boots. Before that, guitar players were like beatnik bongo-playing types that played for the music. It was a unique moment in time... coulda been anybody... I was 3 haircuts, a pair of engineer boots, and a couple guitar lessons from being famous.

Chicks.

And it's easier to play than an accordion.

Not many people played guitar when I started playing. Now, it seems everybody does, must be me, leading the pack as usual. It seems to happen with everything I do, kind of annoys me.

Its easy to learn but difficult to master. With a few chords, a little practice and a decent voice, you can play and sing and have a good time with others. Portable, compact, inexpensive, versitile, endless combinations of colors, shapes, voices. Yes, it is the Leatherman tool of the music world.

It is the cheapest musical instrument with any kind of broad utility. The Beatles may have wanted to form a string quartet, but couldn't afford the instruments.

It's the best instrument to play and lift up praises to a Holy God, and to give Him a new song of praise.
