GHS Vintage Bronze w/ Atkin 47 report

For anyone looking to take a bit of higher end off your acoustic tone, I wanted to report my observations playing with the GHS Vintage Bronze strings.

My 47 was a little "sparklier" than I wanted with the recommended Elixers. I tried several alternatives over the last year including d'darrio XS, XT, and the good ole EJ 16's - all of which exhibited the similar tonal character in the upper frequencies.

I read on the AGF that the GHS Bronze might tame some of what I was hearing and super happy to report that they do.

Thanks to the OP or subsequent poster who made the suggestion. They sound great on the Atkin!

I also use those on my 000e, but also try a set of SB112 spectrums. I love the way sprectrums sound on my hog Atkins after about 2 weeks.

I have used the GHS Vintage Bronze strings on a number of my guitars. They do work quite well on guitars that have a bright edge that a player may want to tame. Happy to hear that they are working for you.

GHS has some great strings. Always felt they were more underrated than they deserve.

I’ve moved on from John Pearse and Daddarios for GHS.

The Vintage bronze are perfect and as a backup I use their PBs.

This has been my experience as well. I embarked on a massive string test to tame the high-end sizzle of my IRIS DF sinker and the GHS Vintage Bronze were the best. Monel strings were also very good but they produce a metallic 'clink' when playing with a pick that drove me nuts, worse than the high-end sizzle.

I also like the GHS vintage bronze. Put a set on my Eastman E1OM about a month ago and just today put a set on my Iris RCM-000. So far so good.

I tried the Vintage Bronze on a whim and now I'm a fan. I use them on my 00 and my parlour, to give these guitars a more rounded and manageable sound.

And they are such a good price relative to some of the boutique string brands!

GHS Silk and Bronze are also extraordinary strings.

They have a soft tone without being dull and are effortless to fret.
Think old fashion "Cowboy Guitar" sound.

My next stop is Vintage Bronze.

I've been using GHS strings ever since they quit building the Masterbuilt strings for Gibson.

80/20 for years, but switched to the Vintage Bronze in the last year or so.

Huge GHS fan.

I forgot about these. I tried some years ago on my now gone OM18V. They were too mellow for that guitar, but might be the ticket for my Iris JB. I currently have some Curt Mangan round core PB's on it. I like them, but if the GHS work as well, at a lower price, it seems like a no brainer.

That's good to know. On the strength of these posts, I've just ordered a pair of sets ... from the US (even with VAT to be added by the post office here, it's still about 25% cheaper than from Amazon here in the UK). I'm not in a rush and the price difference will fund a bottle of wine

They sound interesting, I'm going to check them out! Thanks! I just put a set of Martin SP Flexible Core (Tommy Emmanual sig) on my Waterloo and really liking them. Besides the sound, the playability is noticeable easier. Just had them a day, see what I think over long run. I was done with the Retro sound, looking for more PB kind of thing. I'll add a set of GHS Vintage to my basket!
