Default pinless bridge

is the current smiley bridge more stable than the earlier pinless used on some taylor models?

Taylor stopped using the smiley bridge around 1998 as I recall. They now use a straight slanted line arrangement which was supposed to very slightly improve intonation, though I can't hear it. Pinless bridges are fine but I prefer the pin bridge style which is what you see on virtually all high end acoustics. I don't know whether I'm just imagining things, but to me a pin bridge is a stronger and more responsive design in that the ball end of the string is pulled up against the bridge plate. The bridge plate is a small piece of wood glued on the inside of the guitar under the bridge to give it more strength. To my thinking, this should give transmit the string vibration a little better than doing it only from the top.
